The Institute of Law initiates a research study on European Economic and Financial Integration
With the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union, the Institute of Law is planning to implement a one-year research project during the academic year 2012/2013 in the field of European Economic and Financial Integration.
Europe has long been working on initiatives aimed at removing barriers to free trade in the EU member states, and increased the free movement of people, capital, services, labour, goods etc. and has harmonised the legal framework of several vital matters of such activities across national borders.
The major aim of the research project is to initiate a serious attention to the European Union’s integration approach in the Arab World in terms of searching for possible ways to benefit from the experience of the European Union. This would serve the current dialogue in certain neighbouring countries on the opportunities and challenges on economic integration. By shedding light on key driving legal issues in the European Union’s integration model, the mentioned dialogue might achieve some tangible results.
In the world of globalized economy, the issue of integration is crucial. One significant tool in the economic integration is a concrete legal framework. The activities of this project would clarify this tool from its various aspects in an analytical debate. After concluding the proposed project, the Institute of Law will follow-up its recommendations through networking and proposing other research initiatives in order disseminate the outputs in the context of raising the public as well as officials awareness. It is also hoped that the proposed project will encourage interested scholars and students in the oPt to pursue their higher education in the domain of the European economic integration studies.
The outcomes of this project will be a series of working papers and a book. The articles and the book will be presented in workshops and in an international experts’ conference that will be organized by the Institute of Law during the academic year 2012/2013.
It should be noted that the project will be implemented through the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union (Jean Monnet Programme) and in cooperation with several scholars and experts from leading European universities.
